Innovation in Food – Powdered Fruits and Vegetables

In the realm of consumer product innovation, inventors are always looking for new solutions to pressing problems that current products don’t address or ways to reinvent great products and technologies around them that could be excellent. A particular area that is always interesting to observe innovation within is how food or sources of food are being reinvented, improved and built upon, such as powdered fruit and vegtables.

As society progresses into a faster-paced world, people are having a harder time managing a healthy diet while maintaining a proper work-life balance. As a result, reinventing food to allow for optimal convenience has become incredibly popular with modern innovators. Young professionals and those with tight schedules need to ensure they are consuming the requisite nutrients needed to stay healthy.

Thankfully, a nutrition-focused startup called Kencko has developed an interesting new food innovation: direct-to-consumer packets of powdered fruits and vegetables!

Why Reinvented Fruits and Vegetable Products are Popular Food Innovations

Food alternatives that are health-focused have caught the attention of a wide variety of consumers. A few popular examples that are now distributed widely and increasingly accessible are beyond meat products, non-dairy alternatives, and liquid diet trends like fruit cleanses and kombucha.

As these new forms of food become more popular, inventors are noticing the immense profit garnered by spearheading the development of these innovative forms of nutrition. Most people understand that in order to stay healthy, you need to consume the right amount of nutrients from fruits and vegetables, but many are not huge fans of eating whole fruits or vegetables, and this is where inventors come in.

Kencko is one of these innovation drivers. They’ve developed an excellent solution for this very problem!

About Kencko’s Interesting Food Innovation

The nutrition start-up raised 3.4 million in seed funding for a simple food innovation that serves as an alternative to fruits and vegetables. You simply add the powdered fruits and vegetables into water, milk, or whichever liquid base you prefer, stir them together, and the mixture creates a new tasty drink with a flavour profile akin to something between a cold-pressed juice and a smoothie.

The powdered fruits and vegetables come in a variety of different flavours and are created by flash-freezing and slow-drying produce. Through this process, Kencko can retain all of the vitamins and fibres naturally occurring within the fruits and vegetables, making for a 20-gram packet that contains two of the recommended five-day servings of fruits and vegetables!

The packets are not only convenient and a quick fix for on-the-go consumers looking to get their daily nutrients in, but they also have a shelf life of nine months. This is far longer than the regular shelf life for fruits and vegetables, which are notorious for going bad before they can be consumed.

Each packet costs roughly 2 to 5 dollars, which is not particularly cheap in comparison to buying fruit or vegetables itself, but in comparison to currently trending fruit and vegetable drinks, such as cold-pressed juices and kombucha, the interesting food innovation serves as a great mid-point.
