Apple is Making Their Devices Less Addictive

Apple has made its devices less addictive with new features. This wearable design company is helping users reduce their screen time.

Hours upon hours are spent scrolling through our smartphones or on other devices each day by almost everyone on the planet. It’s 2018, and we are now more dependent on our devices than ever before. Mobile phone usage in Canada, in particular, is among the highest in the world.

Companies like Apple are no strangers to this world and in fact, are primary contributors to driving technological innovation and refining these devices that we’re so dependent on to make them even more user-friendly and capable of doing much more than we had ever once imagined.

They’ve even moved from once a computer company to expanding to today, a wearable design company too with their products like the Apple watch that delivers everything your phone does right to your wrist.

Apple’s Wearable Design Line Decreases the Addictiveness of Devices

However, Apple has actually launched a new plan, and it’s not what you’d expect. The prominent technology and wearable design company is now making their design less addictive by adding features that help people decrease their screen time and focus on the things that really matter, such as the very world that’s passing us by.

The New Features

The new features Apple is implementing are:

  • A better do-not-disturb option will allow you to set a bedtime and dim your screen to a low-glow black so that the light of your phone’s screen doesn’t wake you up in the middle of the night with silly app updates. You’ll also be able to set your do not disturb option to automatically activate and deactivate when you’re in a meeting or in a certain specified location (for example, work).
  • More direct controls with a new app called Screentime which will collect information on how long you use what app for and send you weekly reports to help you become more informed of your usage. You’ll also be able to set limits on how long you use certain apps, for example, if you only want to spend one hour on Instagram daily, you’ll get a notification that your time is almost up and be locked out. But don’t worry, you can extend your usage time easily or press the “snooze” button.
  • Lastly, the wearable design company is bringing a function to help with controlling app allowance for children and let parents set phone bedtimes too. Helping kids unplug as well and helping parents have more control over the amount of screen time their kids have.

These new improvements to Apple’s devices are going to really help users become more aware of their usage habits and also become more present in the life around them.
