Kevin Mako Featured on a Powerhouse Tech Focused Podcast

Netflix, Facebook, Apple, Google, and Amazon – what do these five massive names have in common? Employees from these companies trust Educative to learn the latest in-demand software development skills to help them gain an edge in this ever-evolving industry. Educative also has its own podcast called Educative Sessions hosted by Lee Ngo. Their goal? To share stories from industry leaders that are relevant to coders. Kevin Mako, the founder of the premier Canadian product development services provider MAKO Design, was recently invited to their show!

You might remember the term Hacker on our previous blog about the ideal roles of a founders’ team when starting a new business. To refresh your memory, the Hacker is a tech-savvy individual who’s most often your lead engineer who builds the product – which might also require them to code the product as well. But these Hackers who want to lead their own business often need more than technical knowledge to become successful.

Sales, marketing, and customer service are just some of the few things that the Hacker needs to know to help ensure the success of their business. Oh, and just about every other product that we design has a software component. So you can start to see why Educative wanted to get Kevin to share his product development services experience on their podcast!

Educative Sessions | “‘Timing’ in Building a Hardware Design Startup” with Kevin Mako

Since we’re already bringing up earlier blogs from the year, I’d also like to draw your attention to another blog from back in February: The Five Key Elements of Successful Startups. In this blog, we shared that the idea itself is not as important as people think. Spoiler alert: Timing is, in fact, the most important aspect of a successful startup. And in the Startup Sessions, Kevin talks about exactly that. Listen as he shares his experience leading MAKO, the premier Canadian product development services provider.

Here are just some of the things you’ll hear on this episode:

  • How Kevin started TriMech Design Solutions as a high-school student.
  • Overcoming fear and doubt as an aspiring entrepreneur.
  • Kevin’s decision making process at critical points of MAKO’s history.
  • By overwhelming your product with features in the product development phase, you’re delivering an experience that your target audience might not be ready for. They also might not be interested in your product because they can’t understand what it does.
  • Why sales is more important than you think.
