Amazon Storefront for Small Product Businesses

At our product design studio, we recently heard the news about an exciting announcement from Amazon that will help small and medium-sized businesses grow. The online retailer recently announced the introduction of a new section of their website called Amazon Storefronts which will only list products sold by small and medium-sized businesses in the United States.

How Amazon Storefront helps our clients

As a product design studio, we know how difficult it can be to get your product off the ground, and on cluttered platforms like Amazon, where you’re competing with thousands of other products, including ones from large businesses, it can seem next to impossible to reach your wanted level of success.

With the intro of Amazon Storefronts, it’ll be easier to find smaller companies on the platform, and more than one million products from approximately 20,000 businesses were selected to be featured on this new section of the site.

Currently, this is only available on the USA version of Amazon, but the service is planned to launch in Germany and the United Kingdom as well. This new site is a way for Amazon to boost its image as a supporter of small businesses. In recent months, Amazon has faced scrutiny as a website that was stealing business from small businesses.

With the launch of Storefronts, Amazon plans to promote the new page on the homepage of their website, as well as launch a new TV spot featuring some of the small retailers selling on the platform, such as The Little Flower Soap Co., which expects orders to rise for their flavored lip balms and handmade soaps given that the new platform will allow people to easily find their products in a couple of clicks versus several.

Amazon plans to add more companies to Storefront over time, and we can’t wait to see what this means for product designers, a product design studio like us, and inventors alike.
