MAKO Client Spotlight: The BrainVault Mouthguard
Our Ontario invention design agency is proud to have had the opportunity to work on a number of amazing sport and wellness inventions – which is why we were excited to hop on to this project from Drew and Gregg of BrainVault!
Keep reading below to find out more about BrainVault, their life-saving invention backed by science, and the TriMech Design Solutions’s teamwork on their invention, an upper and lower mouth guard.
About BrainVault
Invented by our clients Drew Pittman and Gregg Ueckert, BrainVault is a sports equipment company that supplies a revolutionary patented upper and lower mouthguard made to help reduce the risk of concussions when playing sports. With Drew being a sports agent and Gregg a dentist, the duo came to our product design agency with a clear vision backed by thorough research for what they wanted to bring to life!
What makes BrainVault special as a company is that their lower and upper mouthguard is backed by science that proves that the best way to protect yourself from a concussion while playing heavy contact sports is not only by wearing the proper gear but by protecting your neck – the most important line of defence from a concussion. Unlike how helmets only protect against skull fractures, the BrainVault mouthguard helps strengthen your neck muscles, decreasing the odds of a concussion by 5%.
Not only is the BrainVault mouthguard backed by numerous scientists and professors, but the mouthguard is also scientifically and technology patented, proving how aligning the head and neck increases neck strength and helps defend against the odds of concussion.

MAKO’s Work on the Upper and Lower Mouthguard
At our Ontario invention design agency, we love to take on different projects, and once we heard about BrainVault’s project, we couldn’t have been more excited to help bring this idea to life. Our director of design, Tim Uys, worked with Drew and Gregg to help understand and bring the product through both its concept design and prototyping phases.
Since the project involved a lot of dental and head science, both the upper and lower mouthguards were worked on separately, starting with the upper mouthguard first. The team at our Ontario invention design agency tried out different designs and used iterative prototyping since we needed to create a prototype designed to fit inside of the mouth and properly align the head and neck altogether.
After the knowledge we gained from making the upper mouthguard, we were able to approach the design more easily for the lower mouthguard and complete concept design and iterative prototyping. Finally, we helped and worked both with Drew and Gregg through different stages of production, helping to bring the mouthguard to life!
