Congratulations to the Winners of the 2020 MAKO Student Innovation Award

Earlier this year, we were excited to host our annual MAKO Student Innovation Award competition in collaboration with Ryerson University! As a leading Toronto industrial design consultant firm, the entire MAKO team loved hearing all of the different, new innovative ideas that the talented students at Ryerson presented at the award pitches and couldn’t wait to hear who was going to win!

We were happy to hear that although the pitches and events had to be cancelled due to social distancing measures, the pitches were still able to be carried on thanks to switching to digital alternatives!

After some intense rounds of pitches, MAKO is excited to give a big congratulations to the winners of this year’s MAKO Student Innovation Award, the Enhanced Medical Nutrition Startup from Biomedical Zone!

About the MAKO Student Innovation Award

Every year our Toronto industrial design consultant at TriMech Design Solutions is proud to team up with Ryerson to hold the MAKO Student Innovation Award competition! It’s important for us to support our community, especially aspiring students who want to help push forward innovation in our society.

Not only do we participate in countless different events each year, but taking the time to learn more about what young innovators, designers, and future entrepreneurs have in store for our future excites us.

Because our Toronto industrial design consultant firm TriMech Design Solutions loves to see young entrepreneurs and innovators thrive, the MAKO Student Innovation Award is a business pitch competition that gives the opportunity and platform to students with big and bright ideas to present their ideas to their community and get the helpful exposure they need for their ideas, while receiving feedback and support!

Not only do we give students the opportunity to innovate and take part in the world of entrepreneurship, but we also present an award for $10,500 dollars to a winning group of students from the local Toronto university, Ryerson, who present the most innovative and astounding idea that wows a curated panel of judges with their idea!

Using the money, students can finance and transform their innovative ideas into the market, giving them the opportunity to boost and start their own entrepreneurial journey.

About Enhanced Medical Nutrition

Started under the Biomedical Zone, Enhanced Medical Nutrition (EMN) is a university-based life sciences organization engaged in the research, development, and distribution of evidence-based clinical nutrition in the perioperative setting.

EMN supports the patient’s journey through surgery with clinical nutrition to help patients prepare better and recover faster. The dedicated start-up noticed the statistic that around 69% of individuals admitted to hospitals experience declining nutritional statuses during their stay.

The Enhanced Medical Nutrition start-up presented its winning pitch by explaining that they are focusing on developing a protein isolate water formula that will increase protein intake and muscle metabolism to help maintain and improve the nutritional status of patients.

Their product is innovative and evidence-based and is made to best support improved outcomes in patients to help them better prepare and recover faster. The genius and innovation behind this idea are that it is high-impact and cost-effective, reducing the economic burden that comes along with surgery.

An amazing idea with an important purpose, especially given how important health has been more than ever!
