Five Things To Think About When It Comes to Product Packaging

Designing an innovative product is one thing, but figuring out how to package it for your customers is another. Packaging plays an important role in your product and product design, and it’s important to take it into careful consideration during your invention production process.

A package can really make or break your brand’s success and be the first thing a person sees when it comes to your product, so here are some tips of things you should keep in mind when it comes to your product’s packaging.

Invention Production and Great Product Packaging

Packaging materials

Packaging materials are important when planning the packaging of your product. Seek out the different materials available and what makes the most sense for your product, your budget, and your audience.

Paper or cardboard is the most commonly used material for packaging because it is versatile, inexpensive, and easy to ship and move.

Other materials that may be considered in invention production are glass, metals, plastics, wood, bamboo and cork. All of which bring forward unique pros and cons, as well as flexibility for different types of products.

The environment

It’s no secret that consumers, especially those in the most recent generations, are becoming increasingly conscious of their purchasing choices and the impacts those products have on the environment.

That’s why it’s important, not just for the planet, to consider the environment in your packaging decisions. How will your packaging impact the environment? What’s your waste footprint as a company?

Consumers care about this information, so it’s important to show them that you thought this through when choosing your packaging.

Transportation costs

Another important factor to consider when selecting the proper packaging for your invention production and that’s because transportation costs can add up quickly. How will you be transporting your product to and from stores or customers? What are the shipping costs for your product, and how can you adapt your packaging to be more friendly when it comes to transportation?

For example, is it easy to stack a large number of your packaged products on top of each other in a box so you can get the most bang for your buck, or is the packaging incredibly awkward or fragile, limiting what you can transport at one time?

Practicality

How frustrating is it when you buy something, and it comes in a package that takes an arm and a leg to open it? Keep in mind the user experience when designing your packaging during your invention production! Don’t go overboard with the package design, as this could overcomplicate the unpackaging process for the consumer.

Grab attention

You need to get your product noticed on the shelf, so keep that in mind when you’re planning and designing your product packaging. Keep your customers at the top of your mind and think about the things that would attract them to your product on a shelf.

What colours would they like? What is their lifestyle like? What would they be looking for in a product like yours? Your packaging needs to strike a chord with your market.

These are just some of the things to consider when developing your packaging in your invention production process.
